Baku Olympiad: Round 2

By GilaChess - September 05, 2016

After the being thrashed 0.5 - 3.5 by the Czech Republic it was Malaysia's turn to do the trashing after being paired against Palestine.

As reported by NM Mohd Kamal Abdullah on Facebook:
The men scored their first win by beating Palestine. Mok played his usual "Mokdern" defense and slowly suffocated his opponent. Tze Han overpowered his opponent after the latter made some bad choices in the opening. Sumant missed a win after his oponent made an unsound exchange sacrifice and settled for a draw in the endgame. I played against an IM and was better in most parts of the game, but in serious time trouble missed an easy win and allowed my oponent back into the game, which should have been drawn but my higher rated opponent was rather ambitious & blundered in the time scramble.

We played in the same playing area where Norway played & Magnus Carlsen actually paused on his way back from the toilet to look at Mok's game.

Women Lost 0.5-3.5
Our ladies held their ground against their higher rated opponents. Some of them were even clearly better at some points in their game. Nur Nabila managed to salvage half a point for the country.
